It has been A DAY.

A terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad, day. And I know I'm over-dramatic and a pessimist at times but seriously, y'all, awful day.

I woke up this morning to our video monitor beeping saying that the signal was lost, which generally means that someone unplugged the camera end. Jax couldn't have possibly reached it, so my first though was a power outage. I checked my bedside lamp and nope, it didn't work either. I walked over to the light switch [thinking pleasepleaseplease don't let it be the power! Just an outlet that's not working!] and sure enough, our power was out. It couldn't have been out for long, because the monitor would have gone off right away when the camera part of the monitor turned off, but I could already feel it starting to get warmer in the house.

I freaked out, pretty much. We had a fridge and freezer full of food, and it's never less than 100 degrees outside on a sunny summer day, which today definitely was. I called Trav and he got on the phone with the power company who informed him that there had been some kind of discrepancy with our account switchover when we moved. We hadn't received a phone call, a bill or you know SOME KIND OF NOTICE saying our power would be turned off, they just shut it off. To say I was mad would be a serious understatement. Poor Travis had to endure my wrath [when it was really not his fault] and was juggling a very busy day at work as well. He feels terrible about all this, but I really think the company is to blame for not trying to contact us to sort out the account info before just shutting off our power IN JUNE, IN TEXAS. Ugh.

I called my dad and he was going to run to Houston for some product he needed for tiling but found out that a store in Austin had it, so he headed our way. He took Jax and I to lunch at Chili's {hallelujah, air conditioning!}, ran to the store, and on his way back, he came by with a cooler and some dry ice to help us load up our food and things we'd need for the night, and we retreated to my parents' house {hallelujah again! A/C!}. He saved the day! Let me just tell you, not having power? SO much more problematic than you'd think it would be.

Aside from the fact that by 3pm we were literally baking in the house,
** I usually use the Magic Bullet to puree Jax's lunch [had to get innovative & use a slap-chop type Pampered Chef thing I have, and heat it up on the gas stove for a minute or two, rather than the microwave]

** I usually HAVE to let Jax watch Baby Einstein on YouTube on my phone in order to get him to eat anything at all, but I didn't have the capability to charge my phone after draining the battery, & the home phone didn't work of course, so I couldn't contact anyone...

** Our garbage disposal needed to be run & couldn't...the stench was already taking over my kitchen, and I really fear what it will smell like when we get back. I plan to use LOTS of baking soda and vinegar on it..blech.

** It was no less than 20 degrees HOTTER upstairs [where Jax's room is] and by 2:30pm, he was in desperate need of a nap.

** Jax always sleeps with his Homedics Soundspa Lullaby {aka Baby Crack Machine} playing "rain". It does take batteries, but I didn't have any of that kind, so he had to go without it.

** ALL of my work is on our desktop computer & the two external hard drives. No power=NO work.

** Did I mention it was HOT. Oh yes, disgustingly, stickily hot.

So as you can imagine, he woke up way earlier than normal from his nap and was absolutely drenched in sweat and crying. :( He looked like he'd just gotten out of the tub/pool. Poor dude!

[Dad loading up the coolers]

We met Trav here and he was just so upset by all of it. Just a sucky situation all around! We came to my parents' house because they said the earliest that power will be restored is tomorrow [which I say is crap, but whatever] and I am NOT leaving this {cool, electricity-equipped} house until we are 100% certain that a sauna doesn't await us back home!

Oh well, it was nice to spend some time with my dad [Jax LOVES his Papaw] and see my brother tonight at Bible study. We ate at Chick Fil A before church and get this, guys, JAX ATE TWO CHICKEN NUGGETS {albeit small nuggets, since that's how theirs are, but still!} and two large waffle fries! It was an hour after he normally eats, so maybe he was just hungry? But he gobbled them right up! We went to a FroYo place later tonight too and Jax liked it!

[The men. Being, well, men. Chatting politics & work (construction & airplane) stuff]

Oh and I'd like to say, I am super thankful that I didn't throw laundry in the washer [like I probably should have] because dealing with mildewy clothes on top of all this may well have sent me over the edge. Anyway, at least that's a bright spot in our abysmal Wednesday. Hope yours was {LOTS} better!!!

I am so sorry to hear of such a craptastic situation for you!!! I know that when our fridge kicked the bucket (right after a $125 grocery run) I was BEYOND flustered-- and that was just the fridge!

Praise the Lord for family closeby!
And really, Praise the Lord for electricity at all... I DO NOT KNOW how they did it back in the pioneer days!?! ;)

You poor thing! Our power went out for about 2 hours last week and I was getting all kinds of mad, trying to figure out where we would stay, what to do with the groceries, etc.

Luckily, it came back on but I would be so mad!!
